  • Ready-to-run Hall-effect distributor for Chrysler RB 413/440 and 426 Wedge & Street Hemi V8s
  • Multi-pole reluctor trigger delivers consistent spark without an ignition box
  • Direct fit for Chrysler Imperial, New Yorker, Dodge Polara & 426 Street Hemi applications
  • Aluminum housing built for street and performance driving

Description

This Ready to Run distributor is built for the Chrysler RB big block V8 family — 413, 426 Wedge, and 440 CID — and the 426 Street Hemi (1966–1971), using a multi-pole reluctor (Hall-effect) trigger in place of breaker points for consistent spark delivery across the RPM range.

This distributor requires an external coil rated at 35,000+ volts (not included) and a 12-volt electrical system with an alternator. It is not compatible with generator-based charging systems or vehicles still running a ballast resistor in the ignition circuit — the ballast resistor must be removed or bypassed before installation. Vehicles originally built with a 6-volt system (pre-1956) will need a 12V conversion completed first, or this distributor will not fire correctly.

Engine fitment covers the Chrysler RB big block — 413 (6.8L), 426 Wedge (7.0L), and 440 (7.2L) CID — as well as the 426 Street Hemi (7.0L), commonly found in the Chrysler Imperial, New Yorker, Dodge Polara, Dodge motorhome chassis, and 1966–1971 Street Hemi applications.

Hall-Effect Trigger: No Ignition Box Required
This distributor's multi-pole reluctor trigger fires the external coil directly — no separate ignition box or control module is needed. An external coil rated at 35,000+ volts is still required and is not included with this unit.

Performance Benefit
The Hall-effect reluctor trigger holds ignition timing more consistently than a worn points setup, without the gap drift that develops in breaker-point systems over time. Mechanical and vacuum advance work together to shape the timing curve for street-driven and performance applications, and the aluminum housing keeps the unit lightweight while holding accurate timing under sustained RPM.

Engine Fitment

COMPATIBLE WITH
CHRYSLER BIG BLOCK "RB" V8
• 6.8 L / 413 in³
• 7.0 L / 426 in³ commonly referred to as "426 Wedge"
• 7.2 L / 440 in³

CHRYSLER HEMI V8 GEN. II
• 7.0 L / 426 in³ — 426 Street Hemi

NOTES
• Fits Chrysler RB-series big block V8 engines (413, 426 Wedge, and 440) and 426 Street Hemi Gen. II engines.
• Not compatible with Chrysler B-series engines (350, 361, 383, 400) — B engines use a shorter deck height and different intake manifold.
• Not compatible with Gen. III Hemi (5.7L, 6.1L, 6.4L) — modern Hemi engines are not distributor-based.
• The 413 was used in passenger cars through 1965 only; truck and RV applications continued through 1979.
• Designed for carbureted ignition systems only.
• This distributor is designed for a 12 volt electrical system with an alternator and a performance ignition coil of 35,000 V or more.
• It is not compatible with a generator and cannot be used with a ballast resistor.
• Distributor gear is most compatible with cast iron hydraulic or solid flat tappet camshafts; consult cam manufacturer for recommended gear material.

Q&A

What rotation direction does this distributor turn?
Counter-clockwise, matching the standard rotation direction used by the Chrysler RB big block family and the 426 Street Hemi.

Will this distributor fit a 426 Street Hemi?
Yes. This distributor fits the 426 Street Hemi (Gen. II, 1966–1971) in addition to the Chrysler RB wedge-head engines (413, 426 Wedge, and 440 CID), since the Street Hemi shares the same RB engine block and distributor drive.

Does this distributor require an external ignition box?
No. This Ready-to-Run distributor features an integrated Hall-effect ignition module that fires the coil directly. No external ignition box, CDI unit, points, or condenser is required. An external ignition coil rated at 35,000 volts or higher is required and is not included.

Is the external coil required or just recommended?
An external ignition coil rated at 35,000 volts or higher is required for this distributor to operate. The coil is not included and must be purchased separately.

What electrical system does this distributor require?
This distributor requires a 12-volt electrical system with a charging alternator. It is not compatible with generator-equipped vehicles, 6-volt electrical systems, or ballast resistor ignition circuits.

Will this distributor fit a Chrysler Imperial with a 440?
Yes. This distributor fits the Chrysler RB big block family (413, 426 Wedge, and 440 CID), making it a confirmed application for period Chrysler Imperial models equipped with the 440 RB V8.

What's the difference between this distributor and the Pro Series RB Ready-to-Run version?
Both distributors fit the same Chrysler RB engine family and use a Ready-to-Run Hall-effect ignition design requiring an external coil. The Pro Series version also includes an advance tuning kit (three bushings and four springs), a color-matched spark plug wire retainer with mounting screws, a vacuum advance block-off plate, a power extension cable, and a tachometer output extension cable. This version does not include those additional accessories.
