Description
This Pro Billet distributor is built for the Chrysler RB big block V8 family — 413, 426 Wedge, and 440 CID — and the 426 Street Hemi (1966–1971), using a magnetic pickup trigger with mechanical-only advance for precise, consistent timing control in dedicated performance applications.
This distributor requires a separate ignition box (not included) and an external coil rated at 35,000+ volts (not included), along with a 12-volt electrical system with an alternator. It is not compatible with generator-based charging systems or vehicles still running a ballast resistor in the ignition circuit — the ballast resistor must be removed or bypassed before installation.
Engine fitment covers the Chrysler RB big block — 413 (6.8L), 426 Wedge (7.0L), and 440 (7.2L) CID — as well as the 426 Street Hemi (7.0L), commonly found in the Chrysler Imperial, New Yorker, Dodge Polara, Dodge motorhome chassis, and 1966–1971 Street Hemi applications.
Mechanical-Only Advance: What This Means for Tuning
Unlike TSP's Ready to Run and HEI distributors for this platform, this Pro Billet unit uses mechanical advance only, with no vacuum advance canister. This is a common setup for dedicated performance and race applications where a fixed, RPM-based advance curve is preferred over a load-based vacuum advance curve. The included bushings and springs allow the mechanical advance curve to be tuned to your engine combination.
Clearance Note for Fabricated Valve Covers
Due to cap and housing diameter, this distributor may not clear some fabricated or aftermarket valve covers. Confirm clearance with your specific valve cover before ordering, particularly with tall or narrow fabricated covers.
Performance Benefit
The magnetic trigger and mechanical advance combination is built for dedicated performance and race applications where precise, adjustable timing control matters more than street convenience features like vacuum advance or a self-contained coil. The included bushing/spring kit lets the advance curve be tuned to your specific engine combination.

• Not compatible with Chrysler B-series engines (350, 361, 383, 400) — B engines use a shorter deck height and different intake manifold.
• Not compatible with Gen. III Hemi (5.7L, 6.1L, 6.4L) — modern Hemi engines are not distributor-based.
• The 413 was used in passenger cars through 1965 only; truck and RV applications continued through 1979.
• Mechanical advance only — no vacuum advance canister.
• Requires an external ignition box — not included.
• Due to cap and housing diameter, may not fit with some fabricated valve covers — verify clearance before installation.
• Designed for carbureted ignition systems only.
• This distributor is designed for a 12 volt electrical system with an alternator and a performance ignition coil of 35,000 V or more.
• It is not compatible with a generator and cannot be used with a ballast resistor.
• Distributor gear is most compatible with cast iron hydraulic or solid flat tappet camshafts; consult cam manufacturer for recommended gear material.

Q&A
Does this distributor include an ignition box?
No. This Pro Billet distributor requires an external CDI ignition box, which is not included. Unlike TSP Ready-to-Run or HEI distributors, this unit will not operate without a compatible external ignition box and an external ignition coil.
Does this distributor have vacuum advance?
No. This distributor uses mechanical (centrifugal) advance only. It does not include vacuum advance, making it ideal for dedicated race and high-performance applications where a fixed RPM-based timing curve is preferred.
Will this distributor clear my fabricated valve covers?
Clearance depends on your specific engine combination. Due to the distributor cap and housing diameter, interference may occur with some fabricated or aftermarket valve covers. Verify clearance before ordering.
What rotation direction does this distributor turn?
Counter-clockwise, matching the standard rotation direction used by the Chrysler RB big block family and the 426 Street Hemi.
Will this distributor fit a 426 Street Hemi?
Yes. This distributor fits the 426 Street Hemi (Gen. II, 1966–1971) in addition to the Chrysler RB wedge-head engines (413, 426 Wedge, and 440 CID), since the Street Hemi shares the same RB engine block and distributor drive.
What are the bushings and springs used for?
The included three advance bushings and four advance springs allow you to customize the mechanical advance curve, adjusting how quickly ignition timing advances with increasing engine RPM to match your engine combination and driving style.
What electrical system does this distributor require?
This distributor requires a 12-volt electrical system with a charging alternator. It is not compatible with generator-equipped vehicles, 6-volt electrical systems, or ballast resistor ignition circuits.
Emissions Notice
This Top Street Performance (TSP) product is designed for racing and off-road competition use only. It is not legal for use on public roads or emissions-controlled vehicles and does not comply with federal, state, or local emissions regulations. The buyer assumes all responsibility for legal use and installation.
What is a Emissions-Controlled Vehicle?
"An emissions-controlled vehicle is any vehicle equipped with a factory-installed emissions control system designed to reduce air pollution. These systems include catalytic converters, oxygen sensors, EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valves, and diesel particulate filters (DPF). Most vehicles manufactured after 1975 are considered emissions-controlled and must comply with federal and state emissions laws when used on public roads."
