Description
This Pro Series Ready to Run distributor is built for the Chrysler B-series big block V8 — 361, 383, and 400 CID — using a circuit board module with a magnetic pickup trigger for consistent spark delivery without breaker points. Rotation is counter-clockwise, consistent with the Chrysler big block family.
This distributor requires an external coil rated at 35,000+ volts (not included) and a 12-volt electrical system with an alternator. It is not compatible with generator-based charging systems or vehicles still running a ballast resistor in the ignition circuit — the ballast resistor must be removed or bypassed before installation. Vehicles originally built with a 6-volt system (pre-1956) will need a 12V conversion completed first, or this distributor will not fire correctly.
Engine fitment covers the Chrysler B-series big block — 361 (5.9L), 383 (6.3L), and 400 (6.6L) CID — commonly found in the Dodge Charger, Super Bee, Plymouth Road Runner, Plymouth GTX, and Chrysler Newport.
What's Included with This Pro Series Distributor?
This kit ships with 3 bushings and 4 springs for the mechanical advance (allowing the advance curve to be tuned), a color-matched spark plug wire retainer with screws, a black vacuum advance block-off plate, a power extension cable, and a tachometer output extension cable.
Steel Distributor Gear and Camshaft Compatibility
This distributor uses a steel gear, most compatible with cast iron hydraulic or solid flat tappet camshafts. Confirm gear material compatibility with your cam manufacturer before installation to avoid premature gear wear.
Performance Benefit
The circuit board module and magnetic pickup trigger hold ignition timing more consistently than a worn points setup, without the gap drift that develops in breaker-point systems over time. The included bushing/spring kit allows the mechanical advance curve to be tuned to your engine combination, and the included extension cables and hardware simplify wiring and cap alignment during installation.

Q&A
What rotation direction does this distributor turn?
Counter-clockwise, matching the standard rotation direction used by Chrysler B-series big block V8 engines, including the 361, 383, and 400 CID.
What is included with this distributor?
This distributor includes three advance bushings and four advance springs for mechanical advance tuning, a color-matched spark plug wire retainer with mounting screws, a vacuum advance block-off plate, a power extension cable, and a tachometer output extension cable.
What type of distributor gear is included, and what camshafts is it compatible with?
This distributor includes a steel distributor gear that is most compatible with cast iron hydraulic or solid flat tappet camshafts. If your engine uses an aftermarket roller or specialty camshaft, consult your camshaft manufacturer for the recommended distributor gear material before installation.
Do I need an external ignition box or CDI unit?
No. This Ready-to-Run distributor features an integrated ignition module with a magnetic pickup trigger. No external ignition box, CDI unit, points, or condenser is required. An external ignition coil rated at 35,000 volts or higher is required and is not included.
Will this distributor fit a 1969 Dodge Super Bee?
Yes, if it is equipped with a Chrysler B-series big block 383 CID V8. It also fits compatible 361 and 400 CID B-series big block engines in carbureted applications. It is not intended for RB-series 413, 426W, or 440 engines.
What electrical system does this distributor require?
This distributor requires a 12-volt electrical system with a charging alternator. It is not compatible with 6-volt systems, generator-equipped vehicles, or ballast resistor ignition circuits.
What are the included advance bushings and springs used for?
The included advance bushings and springs allow you to customize the mechanical advance curve by adjusting how quickly ignition timing advances as engine RPM increases. This helps optimize performance, throttle response, and drivability for your specific engine combination, camshaft, and carburetor setup.
Emissions Notice
This Top Street Performance (TSP) product is designed for racing and off-road competition use only. It is not legal for use on public roads or emissions-controlled vehicles and does not comply with federal, state, or local emissions regulations. The buyer assumes all responsibility for legal use and installation.
What is a Emissions-Controlled Vehicle?
"An emissions-controlled vehicle is any vehicle equipped with a factory-installed emissions control system designed to reduce air pollution. These systems include catalytic converters, oxygen sensors, EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valves, and diesel particulate filters (DPF). Most vehicles manufactured after 1975 are considered emissions-controlled and must comply with federal and state emissions laws when used on public roads."
