Description

The TSP HEI Distributor for the Buick big block V8 is a self-contained large-cap HEI ignition upgrade for the full Buick big block family — 400 CID (6.6L), 430 CID (7.0L), and 455 CID (7.5L) — in carbureted applications spanning the 1967 through 1976 Buick big block production era. The integrated HEI design combines the ignition coil, ignition module, cap, and rotor into a single unit, connecting to a single 12-volt source with no external coil, ignition box, or condenser required.

The 65,000-volt internal HEI coil delivers substantially stronger spark than a factory points-style distributor, supporting easier cold starts, cleaner idle quality, and more consistent ignition performance across the full RPM range. A magnetic pickup trigger replaces the mechanical points contact and requires no routine maintenance. Both mechanical and vacuum advance are included, with a vacuum advance adjustment tool shipped with the distributor for advance curve tuning.

The Buick 400 and 430 powered the Gran Sport, Electra, Wildcat, Skylark, and Sportwagon from 1967 through 1969 before giving way to the 455 in 1970 — which went on to power the GS 455, Riviera, LeSabre, Electra, Estate Wagon, Centurion, Century, and Regal through 1976. The Buick big block V8 is a distinct engine family produced from 1967 through 1976, separate from both the Buick Nailhead (1953–1966) and the Buick small block (215–350 CID). The 400 and 430 CID engines debuted in 1967 and powered Buick's performance and luxury vehicles through 1969. The 455 CID replaced both in 1970 and became the standard big block option across Buick's full lineup — appearing in the legendary GS 455, the Grand Sport Riviera, the full-size LeSabre, Electra, and Estate Wagon, and the personal luxury Centurion and Regal — before being discontinued after 1976 due to evolving emissions requirements. These engines are not related to the Buick Nailhead or small block despite sharing the Buick name, and they require their own distributor specific to the big block architecture.

Will this distributor fit a Buick GS or Gran Sport?
Yes, for the following Gran Sport and GS applications equipped with the big block V8: the GS 400 (1967–1969) with the 400 CID big block, and the GS 455 (1970–1975) with the 455 CID big block. Gran Sport and GS models equipped with small block engines are not compatible with this distributor.

Will this fit a Buick Riviera?
