Product Details

Features

  • 190,000 PSI chromoly main bolts secure 2-bolt large journal SBC caps
  • Rolled threads after heat treatment for tested tensile and yield strength
  • Fits Chevy 262-400 in³ small block engines with large journal mains
  • Black oxide finish and oil coating resist rust and corrosion

Description

This main bolt kit is manufactured from heat-treated 35 chromoly steel with a minimum tensile strength of 190,000 PSI, providing secure main bearing cap retention for Chevrolet small block engines with 2-bolt main caps and large journal crankshafts. Threads are rolled after heat treatment and tested for tensile and yield strength.

Each bolt is finished in black oxide with an oil coating for corrosion resistance. This kit is built for engine rebuilds, rotating assembly service, and restoration projects on large journal Small Block Chevy applications.

Applications
Fits Chevrolet small block V8 Gen I engines with 2-bolt main caps and large journal crankshafts: 4.3L/262, 4.4L/267, 5.0L/305, 5.0L/307, 5.7L/350 (1968 and later only), and 6.6L/400 in³.

Installation
Threads are rolled after heat treatment and tested for tensile and yield strength. Torque to engine manufacturer specifications in the recommended sequence for proper main cap clamping force.

Engine Fitment

COMPATIBLE WITH
Chevrolet Small Block V8 Gen I (2-Bolt, Large Journal)
• 4.3L / 262 in³
• 4.4L / 267 in³
• 5.0L / 305 in³
• 5.0L / 307 in³
• 5.7L / 350 in³ (1968 and later only — excludes 1967 350s, which used small journal)

NOTES
• Designed for Gen I Small Block Chevy engines with 2-bolt main caps and large journal crankshafts (1968 and later production for 265/267/283/302/327; all production years for 305/307/350/400, which were large-journal-only).
• Verify block and crankshaft configuration before ordering — some displacements (265, 267, 283, 302, 327) were produced in both small journal (pre-1968) and large journal (1968+) configurations.
• Not compatible with small journal SBC engines.
• Not compatible with LS, LT, or Big Block Chevy engines.

Q&A

What does this main bolt kit fit?
Chevrolet small block V8 Gen I engines with 2-bolt main caps and large journal crankshafts: 262, 267, 305, 307, 350 (1968 and later), and 400 in³.

Does this kit fit a 1967 350?
No — 1967 350 in³ engines used a small journal crankshaft. This kit fits 1968-and-later 350s, which switched to large journal.

Will these bolts fit a small journal Small Block Chevy (265, 283, 302, or 327)?
No — those displacements use small journal main caps, which require different hardware than this large journal kit.

What material are the bolts made from?
Heat-treated 35 chromoly steel with rolled threads, a black oxide finish, and a corrosion-resistant oil coating.

What is the minimum tensile strength of these bolts?
190,000 PSI.

Why replace main bolts during a rebuild?
Fresh main cap hardware helps ensure proper clamping force and reliable main bearing cap retention.

Is this kit suitable for restoration or performance builds?
Yes — the 190,000 PSI tensile strength construction suits street, restoration, marine, and performance applications on large journal SBC blocks.
