Description
Upgrade your Oldsmobile second-generation V8 — 260, 307, 330, 350, 400, 403, 425, or 455 CID — with this Pro Series Pro Billet distributor, built with a magnetic pickup trigger for use with a compatible external ignition box and coil. This setup is designed for higher-output ignition systems on Cutlass, 442, Delta 88, Ninety-Eight, Toronado, and Vista Cruiser applications.
This distributor is designed for the second-generation Oldsmobile V8 and will not fit engines built before 1964. The housing is machined aluminum with a steel drive gear best matched to cast iron hydraulic or solid flat-tappet camshafts, and rotation is counterclockwise. Requires a compatible external ignition box and a coil rated at 35,000 volts or higher; also requires a 12-volt electrical system with an alternator and is not compatible with generator-based charging systems or vehicles still running an active ballast resistor in the ignition circuit — the resistor should be removed or bypassed as part of installation. Timing is set through mechanical advance only.
What Is a Pro Billet Distributor?
A Pro Billet distributor uses a magnetic pickup trigger but, unlike HEI or Ready-to-Run designs, requires a separate external ignition box in addition to an external coil rather than housing that control on board. This setup is common in higher-output or race-oriented ignition systems where the buyer wants to pair the distributor with a specific external box and coil combination rather than an all-in-one unit.
Performance Benefits
The magnetic pickup trigger delivers consistent, wear-free timing signal without the point drift of older breaker-point systems. Because the ignition box and coil are external and separately selected, this setup allows the ignition system to be matched to higher-output requirements than a self-contained distributor typically supports on the Oldsmobile second-generation V8 platform. Mechanical advance handles the timing curve, keeping the system straightforward to set up and tune.

• The 330 was produced from 1964–1967; the 400 from 1965–1969 (and briefly in 1975 as a Pontiac-sourced engine); the 425 from 1965–1967; the 350 from 1968–1980; the 455 from 1968–1976; the 403 from 1977–1979; the 260 from 1975–1982; the 307 from 1980–1990.
• Designed for carbureted applications only.
• Requires an external coil with a minimum output of 35,000V — no separate ignition box required.
• This distributor is designed for a 12 volt electrical system with an alternator and a performance ignition coil of 35,000 V or more.
• It is not compatible with a generator and cannot be used with a ballast resistor.
• Distributor gear is most compatible with cast iron hydraulic or solid flat tappet camshafts; consult camshaft manufacturer for recommended gear material before installation.

Q&A
Do I need an external ignition box with this distributor?
Yes. This Pro Billet distributor requires a compatible external ignition box in addition to an external ignition coil. Unlike Ready-to-Run or HEI distributors, it will not operate without an ignition box.
Will this distributor fit my Oldsmobile V8 built before 1964?
No. This distributor is designed for second-generation Oldsmobile V8 engines produced from 1964 onward and is not compatible with pre-1964 Oldsmobile V8 engines.
Does this distributor include a coil or ignition box?
No. Neither the ignition coil nor the ignition box is included. This distributor requires an external ignition coil rated at 35,000 volts or higher and a compatible external ignition box, both sold separately.
What type of advance does this distributor use?
This distributor uses mechanical (centrifugal) advance only. Three advance bushings and four advance springs are included, allowing you to customize the advance curve for your engine combination.
What direction does the rotor turn on this distributor?
Counterclockwise, viewed from above, matching the standard rotation direction of the second-generation Oldsmobile V8 engine family.
What distributor gear is included, and will it work with my camshaft?
This distributor includes a steel distributor gear, which is best suited for cast iron hydraulic or solid flat-tappet camshafts. If your engine uses a roller or other specialty camshaft, verify the recommended distributor gear material with your camshaft manufacturer before installation.
Emissions Notice
This Top Street Performance (TSP) product is designed for racing and off-road competition use only. It is not legal for use on public roads or emissions-controlled vehicles and does not comply with federal, state, or local emissions regulations. The buyer assumes all responsibility for legal use and installation.
What is a Emissions-Controlled Vehicle?
"An emissions-controlled vehicle is any vehicle equipped with a factory-installed emissions control system designed to reduce air pollution. These systems include catalytic converters, oxygen sensors, EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valves, and diesel particulate filters (DPF). Most vehicles manufactured after 1975 are considered emissions-controlled and must comply with federal and state emissions laws when used on public roads."
