Description

Replace your 1986–1993 Ford Mustang or Mercury Capri 5.0L's factory EFI distributor with this TSP magnetic pickup distributor, built for computer-controlled ignition systems. Because timing is managed by the vehicle's computer, this distributor is matched to the factory-style advance curve rather than a mechanical or vacuum advance mechanism.

This distributor is built specifically for 1986–1993 Mustang and Capri 5.0L applications and will not fit truck, van, SUV, or 351W applications. The housing is aluminum with a steel drive gear best matched to cast iron hydraulic or solid flat-tappet camshafts, and rotation is counterclockwise. Requires a coil matched to the vehicle's factory computer-controlled system, along with a 12-volt electrical system with an alternator.

What Is a Computer-Controlled EFI Distributor?
Unlike an EFI-to-carb conversion distributor, this unit is designed to work with the vehicle's factory computer-controlled ignition system rather than replace it. A magnetic pickup trigger sends timing signal to the factory module, which manages the advance curve electronically instead of relying on mechanical or vacuum advance — matching how the 1986–1993 Mustang and Capri 5.0L were originally engineered to run.

Performance Benefits
The magnetic pickup trigger provides a clean, consistent signal to the factory ignition module, supporting reliable timing accuracy without the wear-related drift of an aging factory distributor. Because this distributor is purpose-built for the specific 1986–1993 5.0L computer-controlled Mustang/Capri platform, it's matched to the factory-style ignition behavior these vehicles were designed around.

Q&A

What vehicles and years does this distributor fit?
This distributor fits 1986–1993 Ford Mustang 5.0L and Mercury Capri 5.0L models equipped with the factory computer-controlled EFI ignition system.

What's the difference between this and TSP's 1991–1995 5.0L EFI distributor?
Both distributors fit overlapping 1991–1993 Mustang 5.0L applications but are designed for different factory ignition module and connector configurations. If your vehicle falls within the 1991–1993 overlap years, verify your original distributor's module and connector style before ordering.

Is this a carbureted distributor?
No. This is a computer-controlled EFI distributor designed to work with the factory electronic ignition system. It is not compatible with carbureted engines or EFI-to-carburetor conversions.

Will this fit my F-150 or Bronco?
No. This distributor is designed specifically for the Mustang and Capri 5.0L passenger car EFI applications. It is not compatible with Ford truck, van, or SUV applications.

Will this fit a 351W?
No. This distributor is designed specifically for the 5.0L (302 Windsor) engine and is not compatible with 351 Windsor (351W) applications.

What direction does the rotor turn on this distributor?
Counterclockwise, viewed from above, matching the standard rotation direction of the Ford Windsor small block V8 family.
