Description
Ford's "385-series" big block V8 — sold in 429 and 460 cubic-inch displacements — uses a front-sump oiling layout in passenger car applications. This chrome-plated steel pan is built for that configuration, fitting most passenger car applications from 1968 through 1978, including Thunderbird, LTD, Galaxie, Lincoln Continental, Continental Mark III through V, and Mercury Marquis.
The pan holds 4 quarts and uses a wet-sump design with the sump located at the front, matching the factory 385-series layout. It has a 1/2"-20 drain plug thread with the drain plug included. This pan does not include internal baffling, a windage tray, gasket, or oil pickup, and does not have a dipstick provision — these will need to be sourced or accounted for separately as needed for your build.
This pan will not fit truck or van applications, which use a different pan configuration than the passenger car platforms listed above.
Constructed from steel with a chrome finish, the pan adds a polished, show-quality appearance to 429/460-powered engine bays.
Applications
Fits Ford 385-series big block V8: 7.0L (429 in³) and 7.5L (460 in³). Passenger car applications only, from 1968 through 1978, including Thunderbird, LTD, Galaxie, Lincoln Continental, Continental Mark III-V, and Mercury Marquis. Not compatible with truck or van applications.
Installation
Drain plug is included with a 1/2"-20 thread size. This pan does not include internal baffling, a windage tray, gasket, or oil pickup — these must be sourced separately. No dipstick provision is included.
