Description
The TSP Pro Series Ready-to-Run Distributor with Fixed Collar and Female Cap for the Chevy SBC and BBC is a carbureted ignition distributor for the Gen. I Chevrolet small block V8 (262–400 CID) and the standard-deck Mark IV big block V8 (396, 402, 427, and 454 CID). Available in black finish only.
Female Cap: The female cap uses recessed socket terminals that accept male-pin spark plug wire boots. Verify your plug wire set uses male-pin boots before ordering. For male terminal cap versions, see JM7701-2 (fixed collar, male cap).
Fixed Collar: The fixed collar is permanently set on the distributor housing, providing structural body support and consistent positioning reference at the engine block. Timing is set using the standard hold-down method.
An external ignition coil rated at 35,000 volts or higher is required — coil not included. No external ignition box is required — the module is integrated. Distributor rotation is clockwise. Both mechanical and vacuum advance are included. Three advance bushings and four springs, a vacuum advance block-off plate, tachometer output extension cable, power extension cable, and color-matched plug wire retainer are included.
Not compatible with tall-deck BBC, governor-equipped applications, LS or Gen. III/IV engines, or EFI. Requires a 12-volt electrical system with an alternator. Not compatible with 6-volt systems, generators, or ballast resistors.
Female Cap vs. Male Cap
The female cap sockets accept male-pin plug wire boots. The companion male terminal version (JM7701-2) uses protruding pins that accept female-socket wire boots. Verify terminal gender of your plug wire set before ordering.

Q&A
What is the difference between this distributor and the male cap version (JM7701-2)?
These two distributors are identical in engine fitment, specifications, advance tuning kit, included components, and price. The only difference is the distributor cap terminal style. This listing (JM7701-2F) features female terminal sockets that accept spark plug wires with male-pin terminals. JM7701-2 features male terminal posts that accept spark plug wires with female-socket terminals. Verify your spark plug wire terminal style before ordering to ensure compatibility.
How do I know if I need the female cap or male cap version?
Inspect your existing or replacement spark plug wire set. If the distributor-end boots have a male pin that inserts into the distributor cap, this female cap version is the correct choice. If the boots have a female socket that slides over a distributor cap terminal, the male cap version (JM7701-2) is the correct distributor.
What is the fixed collar on this distributor?
The fixed collar is permanently positioned on the distributor housing and provides structural support along with a consistent positioning reference at the engine block. Ignition timing is adjusted using the traditional distributor hold-down method by rotating the distributor to the desired timing position and securing it with the hold-down clamp.
What engines does this distributor fit?
This distributor fits the Chevrolet Gen. I small block V8—262, 265, 267, 283, 302, 305, 307, 327, 350, and 400 CID—and the standard-deck Mark IV big block V8—396, 402, 427, and 454 CID—in carbureted applications. It is not compatible with tall-deck big block engines, governor-equipped applications, LS engines, or EFI/computer-controlled ignition systems.
Does this distributor include a coil?
No. This Ready-to-Run distributor requires an external ignition coil rated at 35,000 volts or higher. The ignition coil is not included and must be purchased separately.
Do I need an external ignition box?
No. The ignition module is integrated internally within the distributor. No external ignition box, CDI unit, points, or condenser is required.
What is included with this distributor?
This distributor includes three advance bushings and four advance springs for mechanical advance curve tuning, a color-matched spark plug wire retainer with mounting screws, a black vacuum advance block-off plate, a power extension cable, and a tachometer output extension cable.
Does this distributor have a tachometer output?
Yes. A tachometer output extension cable is included for connecting an aftermarket electronic tachometer. This distributor does not include a mechanical tachometer drive.
What direction does this distributor rotate?
This distributor rotates clockwise, which is the standard rotation direction for all Chevrolet Gen. I small block and Mark IV big block V8 engines.
Is this compatible with a 6-volt system or generator?
No. This distributor requires a 12-volt electrical system with a charging alternator. It is not compatible with 6-volt systems, generators, or ballast resistors.
